Making Progress
Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 August 2003

Well, another month has gone by and things are progressing, although not as quickly as I'd like. I've just about polished off the module that allows me to post these little missives, though I keep finding things that I should have done and have to go back and either add or fix. Fortuantely, I've been doing more adding than fixing, except for what I break when I add something...

Even so, I have begun work on the member module. It is usually pretty important if you have a club to make it possible for people to join. It's a daunting task, I'll grant you, but it's not nearly as daunting as the forum module will be when I start work on that. To be sure, it's all a lot of work, and I'm learning a lot about programming along the way, but it will be worth it in the long run.

At least, that's what I'm telling myself to keep myself going. Don't burst my bubble. Okay?

As I mentioned once before, I could have just used someone else's BBS and made a few modifications to it, but I didn't. I didn't think that I could ever get one to have the kind of look that I wanted, and besides, I tried two and couldn't get either of them to work right. Kinda figures, don't it? At least I know the code that I'm writing, and any bugs are my own fault. Please don't hold that against me.

The member module will be pretty cool by the time I'm done. There will be pages to recognize the Founding and Life members, a Brig listing those who have had their memberships suspended or terminated for breaking club rules, member profile pages with rank insignia and medals (that alone will be ultra cool), and the requisite page of club officers, which will be pretty empty until the first elected officers are commissioned on April Fools' Day 2004.

Which reminds me, I still have to build the election module too. Damn.

Well, I would write more, but it occurs to me that the time I spend writing is the time I could be coding the member module, which, as I mentioned, will be cool. Since coolness should always take priority, I'm off to do something cool for you members.

Um, I mean, for you who will be able to become members once I finish all this stuff. I really do want you to join, really. If you haven't indicated your interest in joining on the Join page, please do so. Not many have, though I can't blame them for not submitting their email addresses to a site that could be a spam front for all they know. After all, I have't posted the club's privacy policy yet (Geez, there's another thing I have to do).

Okay, that's it. I'm not writing any more this month because it seems like every sentence I write is another reminder of something else I need to do. Until September, I'm outta here...
