Buy Something. Please.
Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 January 2004
Well, even though I haven't got everything I want in there and working the way I'd like, I've decided to go ahead and flip the switch on the stores module. That means that you can now buy yourself one of three different models of Snark sailboats, with orders filled by A Sailing Obsession, a Snark and Hunter dealer in Visalia, California. I'm hoping that one day, the Acme Yacht Club will help make them the biggest Snark dealer in the world. You can be a part of it!
In the next month, I'm planning on adding some enhancements to the stores so pictures are more visible and you can switch between them (that takes some JavaScript that I haven't incorporated yet). In addition, there's some other stuff that will make it all work better with the database back-end. At least, I hope so.
Remember how I mentioned that I had to work how some PayPal Instant Payment Notification stuff? That never happened, so I will also have to add that in once I figure out exactly how it works, and what it will mean to the database structure. I have no doubt that it will be critical to the member module, once that rolls out, so I will have to get that working to perfection before I begin signing up members.
Which leads me to the member module. Truthfully, I haven't done anything more on it since my last message because I was concentrating on the stores module (which is unfinished, even though it works as-is). I can tell you that I have built a rough framework for the member database and one of many ways to get data back out, but there's a lot more to do. For example, those members paying on a monthly basis will have to have their expiration dates updated when they pay their dues. That's a PayPal IPN function that I'm going to have to implement, so that will have to wait until I can master that for the stores module. Alternately, I can forego it temporarily to begin selling life memberships (which will be available), but I don't expect that I'd have too many takers at this point, even if it is relatively cheap. Further, I have more artwork to prepare, and I'm not much of an artist, particularly electronically.
Even though all is not as I'd like it to be, I can look back on the last month and say that I've reached a milestone of sorts, even if it's not all that I had envisioned. Every achievement should be something to celebrate, especially among those of us for whom actual successful accomplishments are rare. I'm not taking too much time to pat myself on the back for it, though, because there is still so much to do.
So I'm going to get back to doing it. My, but it's tedious work...
