Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 April 2004
This last month, I have done almost nothing with the site. I'm not proud of it, but there it is. What are you gonna do?
It's been a busy month for me personally, but not so much for the club. I did get one guy asking me if I could do anything on the price of the boats in the Club Stores, which I can't since I don't set the prices on those, but not much else. Also, if you should happen to get a 404 error or something, you will now get a page that is more integrated into the site than the default page supplied by the hosting company. Yay.
The member module is coming. Slowly, but it is coming. Part of the reason that I will get it done is that you can't join if I don't finish it, and another reason is that someone else can then be elected to take over the monthly messages, like I'm doing right here, right now. That will leave me to manage the site and handle the day-to-day business of the club and only post messages when I really have to.
In addition, after much internal debate, I have decided that I will most likely not build the forums from scratch but will instead use the Invision Power Board provided by the hosting company. It is certainly robust enough to handle the job, and I can, if I really want to, make necessary modifications to it such that it will look more like it belongs to the club, though I cannot completely integrate it into the site like I could with a custom-built forum module.
It's good to know that others have become aware of the club, even though there hasn't been any advertising or publicity. I'm looking forward to the time when that will change, but that will be a while. I have to get the site up to full functionality first, and build a solid membership base. That will come, I am sure, but not without effort. It would be nice if I could share the effort, though...
