The Misfortune Continues...
Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 March 2005
Holy crap!
If you check the dates, you can see that it's been two months since the last entry here. All I can say is "oops!" It's just one of those things that got overlooked, and I can tell by the lack of any feedback whatsoever that it's gone completely unnoticed.
I wish that I could say that I'm surprised, but I'm not. This site gets so little traffic right now, and I get so few emails from it, that the absence of one month's Commodore's Log seemingly makes little difference. That will change, I'm sure, but I'm not getting all aquiver over it now.
Progress on the member module is still not happening. I've discovered that PayPal has a "Sandbox" in which to test applications, but I have yet to get that figured out well enough to actually continue testing. I'm working on it, as well as a couple of dozen other things.
As the weather warms up and we prepare for another season, take the time to check out all of your gear, and then check it again. You know that you'll overlook something, just as I did. Make sure that all safety equipment is functional and where you can get at it quickly, because you know that when you need it, you'll need it fast. Spend the time and effort to go over all of your lines, shrouds, sails and fittings to ensure that they will work properly, and replace anything that needs replacing. Give your hull a once-over as well, and fix or paint whatever needs fixing or replacing.
What you do on land affects what you can do on the water. Do everything you can before launching to ensure yourself an enjoyable and safe season. Even when things go wrong, and they will go wrong, your preparations can keep a bad situation from getting worse. They will be bad enough, I can assure you.
See you next month. Or, maybe someone will see this next month. At this point, who can tell?
