Ode to Spring
Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 April 2005
Spring,
Complaining shrouds moan at the labor,
Awakened from their winter slumber,
While sails snap to attention,
Saluting at their first mission.
When nylon and canvas rise
To catch God's first push.
When, blanketed by chill spray,
We smile into the salted breeze.
Our PFDs gleam confidently,
Ready to rescue, and knowing they will.
Fresh bilge water mingles
With what survived the cold.
And we sail...
Not bad for five minutes' thought, eh?
Are you ready? If you aren't, then what's keeping you? The breezes are freshening, and the water isn't that cold, really. Okay, maybe it is where you live, but that's no excuse.
Wait a minute. I forgot my audience.
If the water's too cold where you live, then don't sail. After all, the kind of sailors we are, the water needs to be warm enough to actually survive in for a while. Don't risk your life betting on confidence you have no right to have!
Still no member module update. I won't bore you with the details. I'm pretty sure that nobody's actually trying to find out anyway.
But that time will come, and people will actually care about why something on this site doesn't work!
I think that it's pretty bizarre that I get excited by that, now that I think about it.
