Summer Sailing
Commodore B. J. Turk, 13 July 2005

This seems to be the time of year when drunken boating seems to take its heaviest toll. Could it be the weather? Duh! Every cool one that you pour down your gullet while aboard impairs you every bit as much on the water as it does behind the wheel. At least you can stop a car faster than you can a boat. Think about that for a moment before you booze it up on the water.

More and more states in the United States are addressing the problem by passing laws that punish drunk boating. Even if you live elsewhere, you should take the lesson to heart. People are getting killed needlessly, and boats are being damaged and sunk because someone can't lay off. It is bad enough to be the poor sailor you already are without adding alcohol to the mix. You will go from being a bad sailor to being a potentially-deadly one. Don't do that to yourself, and don't do that to the rest of us.

Not much new with the site so far. Since the member module has been giving me so much trouble, I'm thinking about something easier, which would be a place to post race notices for those who wish to do so, and for free. It would at least give some value to the site beyond what it already doesn't have.

The page would be in place of the two deck links in the menu that currently aren't of any use. I'm rethinking that whole thing anyway, and could probably put them elsewhere effectively without much of a problem should I decide to retain them at some point.

A little feedback in this regard could go a long way, you know. If you're interested in having a place to post race notices and links to the sites for upcoming races, let me know. I would be glad to do it for the boating community as a whole. Just let me know what should be there and I can get it done, and probably a lot sooner than the member module too.

It's so unrewarding when I skip a month and nobody seems to notice. If anyone did notice, nobody let me in on it. All I seem to get as a result of this site is spam I don't need, and emails on totally different subjects from people who don't even check out the site to see what it's really about. Annoying!

Well, until next month... (maybe)
